Meet Jack
“I really enjoyed having Jack with us for our volunteering day. He was able to explain the tasks of dividing and pruning tasks to our team of gardening amateurs(!) We learned a lot and enjoyed the day. Thank you for the day.” – Corporate Gardening Volunteer, 2023.
We sat down with Jack to ask him the following questions:
- What do you enjoy about gardening with volunteers?
Jack: It’s a great opportunity for social connection with other team members whilst doing something to help beautify London, all the while learning the ins and outs of gardening. - What’s your favourite garden or green space?
Jack: RHS Wisely is spectacular! - Your favourite gardening activity?
Jack: Sometimes basic pruning and maintenance can be very meditative. Also, new planting and moving existing plants to create more beautiful garden designs can be very satisfying. - What got you into gardening?
Jack: I first got into gardening when I moved to a house that had a garden in desperate need of attention. - Your favourite plant?
Jack: I love the beauty, variety and structurality of alliums. Nasturiums are also great because they look lovely, are easy to grow, and taste delicious! - What do you get up to when you’re not gardening?
Jack: I’m all about travel, ideally to places with lots of hiking and other outdoor activities. I’m also an avid cook.I do have my own website, https://jackmccall.org – it does have a bit of travel and food writing though.
